Justin Williams of Sandy, Utah, is going to Hollywood. Again.
Williams was one of the profiled auditioners on Tuesday night’s season 9 premiere of “American Idol.” Auditioning in Boston, Williams sang a Michael Buble song, “Feeling Good” — which was an ironic counterpoint to his backstory of surviving cancer. (Entertainment Weekly covers Williams’ appearance in this recap.) Guest judge Victoria Beckham (a k a Posh Spice) said he had a ”nice voice, nice face, nice presence, and nice smile.”
What the show didn’t mention is that Williams, a vocal coach who has a following among Utah listeners (and his own web site), made a notable splash in the Hollywood round of Season 8. He was part of the quartet called “White Chocolate” — which included eventual winner Kris Allen and finalist Matt Giraud — that wowed the judges with a rendition of the Jackson 5′s “I Want You Back.” (The web site My Reality Television has the video here.)
