Utah consumers looking for grass-fed beef can now buy it directly from a group of Summit County ranchers.
Summit County Beef is raised without antibiotics on Blazzard Farms in Kamas and Half Circle Cross Ranch just outside of Coalville. It also is processed in Utah.
Customers can order either a whole or 1/2 beef which will be delivered in late October/early November. Orders will be delivered frozen, cut and wrapped in butcher paper, with the name of the cut stamped on the outside of the package.
A whole beef (about 250 pounds of meat) is $1600; while half an animal (about 125 pounds) is $800. The share includes various cuts such as tenderloin, steaks, roasts, short ribs, soup bones and ground beef and/or stew meat. Exeperts say grass-fed beef has less fat that other commercial meats. Orders are currently being taken by phone only at 435-503-4179. Online purchasing should be available soon at summitcountybeef.com.
Summit County Beef is the first project of the Summit County Food Coalition, made up of ranchers, government officials, concerned citizens and non-profit organizations. The group hopes to create a steady supply of local grass-fed beef for Utah consumers.
